Shows & Recitals

Artistate curates annual end-of-year recitals with the inclusion of dancers in our Residential Dance Programme.

It is the avenue for our students to put their hard work and skills on the big stage, utilising cohesive dance pieces to form a full fledged live production show. Our end-of-year recitals also provides selected students with the platform to expand their scope in the dance industry, picking up additional skills like choreographing, lighting design, costume curation, stage management and more.

Dance Competitions

Artistate builds platforms for dancers in the street dance community to showcase their skills in seasonal battle competitions such as Back to Live and For the Record. These highly popular dance competitions are open to the public where dancers get the opportunity to engage in friendly exchanges and challenge one another to see who gets to be at the top and win prize money, celebrating their hard work and skill.

Dance Camps

Consistently aiming to provide more platforms for dancers to expand in their craft and be involved in the community, Artistate also creates dance camps for notable dancers in the community to connect and share their knowledge with up-and-coming or new dancers in Singapore.

Boasting a teaching line-up of some of our industry’s best, Artistate’s Reinvent dance camp is a vital opportunity for dancers to obtain the tools they need to craft their dance and approach the creative process.

Kids & Teens (Events & Dance Performances)

Led by our Breaking and Hip Hop programme directors Sherman and Jeremy, our Kids and Teens Academy creates platforms for the young to showcase their dance (such as the Night Time Assembly) and connect with the dance community.

Noting the importance of the balance of hard work and play, Kids and Teens at Artistate also have the opportunity to get together in non-dance activities such as the Day Fair where they get to know dancers in other dance genres and also have a fun-filled time in games and activities that their families are able to take part with them at Artistate.

Block Parties

Traditionally organized in the street dance community as part of the Hip Hop culture, Artisate presents its spin on Block Parties in our local modern art landscape.

With guest performances, deejay and emcee, dancers gather to enjoy a night of dance and an endless loop of good music.

A celebration of dance regardless of genre, all are welcome at our block parties. The themes of each Block party is planned in collaboration with the students of Artistate Dance Academy.

Collaborative Projects

Spearheaded by Marzipan (Scrach Marcs), Sebastian and Kamil, I_entity Experience is an alternative street dance experience hosting various street dance artists for a week of performances, panel discussions and film screenings.

Artistate was invited to put up a piece specially for this experience along with other notable collectives such as Stirring GroundUnder the Bridge and SHIFTsg.

Before the pandemic, many dancers were able to meet known street dance figures from various countries and had opportunities to exchange and learn from different cultures, whether it was overseas guests coming to Singapore or locals flying overseas.

However, due to the restrictions set in place worldwide to ease the spread of Covid-19, it was challenging to invite overseas guests to Singapore or for local dancers to travel overseas.

With the aim of bridging the gap and continuing to hold strong relationships and platforms for learning, Border Perspective, a virtual International street dance workshop event was built to allow local dancers to gather and learn from invited overseas guests virtually via zoom. A total of 40 dancers gathered for the pilot event.

In celebration of Women’s History month, the Artistate Female Dance Intensive is a 1-day camp (used to be programme) featuring some of the Industry’s notable female figures in the local street dance community.

The Female Dance Intensive aims to provide female dancers with the tools and approaches adopted to evolve in the male-dominated, street dance industry. All genres are welcomed!

Designed for dancers, M.E.S builds on Mobility, Endurance, and Strength which are indispensable to every dancer. Through guided exercises and equipment, dancers will push their limits to ensure their bodies perform at their best when it counts.

With professional guidance and equipment, dancers are pushed beyond their limits on mobility, endurance, and strength, encouraging them to overcome their various frustrations as a
B-girl or a B-boy in a safe and supported environment.

M.E.S is a dance fitness programme supported by Fitluc.
